IELTS Sample Answer Writing Task 1 #003

The line graph below gives information on cinema attendance in the UK.

A comparison of the proportion of the cinema-goers in the UK categorized in the groups of age over a two-decade period from 1990 to 2010 is illustrated in the line chart. Overall, all cohorts experienced an upward trend. However, there was a steady fluctuation among all groups in the mid period and the gap between the youngest and the elderly widened in the end of the period,

In the course of 1990, the middle age and oldest people were more likely to go to cinema. These stood at fairly similar proportion, at 35%, while other cohorts were fewer than a third. By 2010, there had been  significant changes. By far the most noticeable one was seen in the age group of 34-44 and the elderly one. It had widened out between 1% and 8%, while others had shown less marked differences.

After a parallel increase in 1995, virtually all categories fell and continued to hit a low. The youngest cohort was by far the fewest, amounting to more or less 12%. Then, all of them went up significantly over the period in the question. This was in stark contrast to the figure for citizens aged 24-34, stagnating roughly 32.
